Hey, I’m Syd!
I’m a proud Wife, Mama and Christian. I started this blog as a passion project. My own little corner of the internet where I could brain dump. I’d like to think of myself as equal parts Black Girl Magic and Suburban soccer mom. In other words, you can easily find me rocking my kinky-curly fro, blasting 90s R&B music on my way to enjoy some Me-Time with a Starbucks at Target. If any of that makes sense. My hope is that you’ll visit often to keep up on how I’m navigating Motherhood and that my mishaps and lessons bless you in some way.
As a mom we can tend to spend so much time getting everyone else ready, leaving little time for ourselves. I get it, we’re busy! And as a black mama with natural hair my hair can take that much longer to style. But we shouldn’t neglect ourselves. So this week I thought I’d highlight some […]
Screen Time! The topic that divides parents everywhere. How much screen time should we give? What age is too soon? Are there developmental implications to giving too much screen time? The list of questions goes on and on. Like many parents I’ve been guilty of allowing my child too much screen time. When I was […]
I’m going to be honest with you. I’ve felt like I’ve been on an ongoing journey with learning how to prioritize myself in my life, learning to make space for “me”. For some people this may sound silly. “How can you not make space for yourself in your own life?” But for people who have […]
We’ve all been here before. A place that always fills us with mom guilt two seconds later. An instance when we lose our cool and lash out in anger toward our children over any number of things. It could be a tantrum, repeating ourselves for the hundredth time or just being exhausted. Whatever it is […]
“I just don’t recognize this body.” At the intersection of the glowing pregnant woman and the fit and fabulous snap back queen lies the uncertain and unwanted postpartum body. The body that no one glorifies and no one praises. The body that is hidden and tucked away until a “better” body can emerge in its […]
The New Year is almost upon us and like most new beginnings we are hopeful for what this new year will bring! Will we finally reach our fitness goals? Will we land that dream job? Will we buy our first home? Although we may be very hopeful for the future, hope alone is not enough […]
“At the end of the day I just want my solitude.” Let me know if you can relate to this on a personal level. It’s the end of the day and you’re putting your children to bed. Your baby still needs to be nursed and your toddler needs some extra bedtime cuddles. You’ve been climbed […]
“Sometimes I think I need you more than you need me baby boy.” Have you ever been in awe of your child? Like mouth open, soul humbling awe. The type of feeling where you are forced to check yourself and throw away most of what you thought your life as a parent would be. Just […]
For many people, the holidays are the best time of the year. Typically seen as a time to celebrate, the holidays are generally filled tons of family get-togethers and parties filled with loved ones from different aspects of your life. But for some people the holidays can be filled with dread. The pressure to provide […]
If you’ve been following my blog for a while then you know how passionate I am about mental health in general but more specifically maternal mental health. Mothers are often overlooked as soon as they give birth. The perspective shifts almost immediately from adoring the expected mother to placing a laundry list of expectations on […]
